Party Pics (Part Two)

Introducing the man, the legend.

Oh, and Webb Wilder was there too.

Webb and Tom Comet getting the evening going, leading everyone in a sing-a-long version of the Legion preamble. All together now!

Tom's a very cool guy, though Webb had him beat in the hat department.

Consider that rug cut.

Steve Pijut desperately attempting to think of a way to claim he wasn't enjoying Webb Wilder.

The all-Horton amateur dance hour.

Webb tells amusing anecdote 37-b, "The Wisconsin Variation."

Webb being Webb. (That's a hell of a lot better than Manny being Manny.)

Lindsey being cute as the dickens.

I have it on the best of authority that these two men had been drinking Newcastle all evening.

Worlds collide; Webb mingles with the Humbugs.

Webb was a great guy. I, on the other hand, was every bit as looped as I look here. Oh well.

Party Pics (Part One)

Here we go!

Let the surreality begin! My mom and dad chatting with Webb Wilder.

The Humbugs at the sound check.

Webb at the sound check.

The "cool" table.

Introducing the Humbugs with all the charm and grace of a drunken Ed McMahon.

The Humbugs doing what the Humbugs do well.

Adam and Matt, Rock n' Roll action figures. (Beer sold separately.)

Kristin preparing for that ever important Dm dim 7th chord. (Warning! Chord may possibly not exist.)

Mike doing the whole lead guitarist thing.

The obligatory "Yes, they have a bass player" pic. Seriously, Tim's a cool guy, and not just because of the hat. Though the hat helps.

Crotch shot!

On the cue, "Grimace musically!!"

There will be more to come.

Party Recap Coming

I'm waiting to get the photos back from my photographer. After they arrive all will be revealed.

Needless to say, those who missed it missed something really special.

Friday The 13th

The night before the party, for all of those who will already be in town, I am proposing the following schedule of events!

5PM to 6PM: Happy Hour at the Winzer Stube in Hudson.

6:15PM to 7:45: Dinner at Paddy Ryan's, also in Hudson.

8PM to Whenever: My place back in River Falls for some chit-chat and maybe some homebrew.

Anyone who needs my address and/or direction just shoot me an email.

Other Entertainment In The Area

For those who have extra time before or after the party, and would like something else to do here are some options:

Golf: For the "good walk ruined" crowd Kilkarney Hills is just outside of town. Prices range from $20-$48 dollars.

Up in Hudson, Wisconsin (10 minutes north of River Falls) they are hosting replicas of the NiƱa and Pinta. (For some reason they haven't built my favorite.)

Also, and this must be your lucky day, the Pierce County Fair will be running from the 12th to the 15th. This will be in Ellsworth, Wisconsin (10 minutes south of River Falls.) Ellsworth is the cheese curd capital of the world. You have been warned.

Turns Out I Will Lack The Lackloves

Once upon a time my party was supposed to feature Splitsville and The Lackloves.

The party as it will actually happen will feature neither.

I found out yesterday that The Lackloves have to back out. This sent me into a bit of a panic, but today I got it all worked out. (Famous last words?) After a flurry of activity and quite a few email I have secured the services of The Humbugs. This is fine with me because the Humbugs are awesome, and I like awesome. (Actually I didn't know they were from Minneapolis, so I could have saved myself a bit of bother if I'd only been more aware of the local music scene.)

Whatever else, the process of planning this party certainly hasn't been boring.

The Winner

That is all.

Hello. My Name Is Rich And I'm A Beer Snob

O.K. here is a question I have been pondering. I am going to get a keg of beer for the party, which I will pay for up front so there will be a "free" imbibing option at the party. (The bar will be open and on a cash basis.) Now, I hate most American beer, and I'm really not interested in drinking it at the party. On the other hand, I don't want to get something most average American beer drinking people wouldn't like.

Given that in a place like western Wisconsin I probably won't be able to get anything outrageously obscure/weird, how unusual should I go in my beer selection?

What $500 Hath Wrought

Alright folks, here is the deal. I've mailed in my down payment on one roots rocker icon a name of Webb Wilder.

If you are not familiar with Mr. Wilder, I must say he is larger than life.

Don't believe me?

Augh!!!!!!

Damn it all if Heraclitus wasn't right. All is flux.

Rest assured the date hasn't changed again, but the entertainment has. Splitsville has cancelled on me. (Excuse me while I scream again. AUGH! There. Not better.)

My frustration right now knows no bounds.

Anyway...I think my ambitions are going to be thwarted. That doesn't mean we won't have a great time, it just means things are going to be quieter than I had originally planned.

The new plan will be getting Webb Wilder to play this little shindig. Now, under normal circumstance this would be NOTHING but all kinds of awesome, however, the trouble is I can only afford to bring him up for an acoustic duo show. Now I'm sure it will be great...I just had visions of a band playing the night away.

I'm gonna have to focus on the glass half full part. I'm just not all that good at it sometimes.

Invites Going Out!

They had been delayed, as I needed to finalize the bill of the bands before anything could be put to paper, but the invites are now printed! First batch hits the USPS on Monday! (They will go out in dribs and drabbles as they are kinda difficult to put together - so be patient out there! You will not be forgotten.)

Invitations

Invites will begin to go out this week. It will take a couple of weeks for them to make it into the post as they are slightly more involved than your usual invititations.

All Change

Okay, here is the deal:

1. The employment situation has improved a little. I've been offered a second class in the fall, AND one in the summer, with the possibility of a third class in the fall. That eases the cash flow difficulties.

2. I still don't have enough money to afford The Spongetones.

3. I do have enough to afford Splitsville.

4. In order to accommodate the schedule of the lads in Splitsville, and to allow more friends to make the party in general, I've moved the party up to Saturday, August 14th.

5. This should work. I hope.

Monday, January 25, 2010

Well.....

...there have been some ups and downs.

1) Found out I'm losing my full time work.
2) Found out I can't afford The Spongetones without said full time work.
3) Found out The Spongetones are incredibly cool people, which only makes not being able to book them more annoying.
4) Found out I may be able to teach a class during the summer, which is good party wise.
5) Found out a few people I would love to attend simply cannot make Labor Day weekend.

Which makes me wonder if I should consider moving the festivities up to a weekend in August.

Any thoughts?
